The construction of resilient buildings has become a growing concern worldwide, due to theincrease in extreme climatic events such as hurricanes, floods, forest fires and droughts.
What is a resilient building?
Resilient buildings are designed to withstand extreme climatic events (floods, storms, droughts, earthquakes, fires...), reduce the damage caused, enable residents to remain safe and recover their property quickly after an event. Resilient buildings are also designed to be durable and to withstand the normal wear and tear of time. They are built using high-quality materials and are regularly maintained to ensure their longevity.
Resilient buildings ensure the safety and comfort of their occupants. They are eco-responsible buildings that help reduce environmental impact and greenhouse gas emissions.
The need to take into account the resilience of buildings
In the age of global warming, it is essential to integrate resilience more fully into housing construction and renovation projects in order to guarantee the longevity of buildings, and the safety and comfort of residents. On January 1, 2020, a first step was taken with the implementation of Article 68 of the ELAN law concerning the prevention of risks of land movement following drought and soil rehydration. A geotechnical study of clay shrinkage and swelling is now mandatory for building plots in zones classified as medium or high exposure. Building resilience is also at the heart of the " Climate and Resilience " bill currently being debated in Parliament.
The building system, the starting point for a resilient building
Resilient building starts with good design. Architects and engineers must take into account local climatic risks, such as floods, storms, landslides, earthquakes and fires, when designing buildings. Construction techniques such as the use of impact-resistant materials ,thermal insulation andairtightness are also used to enhance building resilience.
Our EUROMAC2 construction system is ideal for meeting the demands of responsible, resilient building construction. Insulating concrete blocks are designed to withstand earthquakes, storms and floods. They offer resistance to extreme weather events, high thermal insulation, energy savings, durability and rapid construction. Walls built with these blocks are strong, making them capable of withstanding high winds and impacts from flying objects.
We also offer a support service for clients, right from the design stage of their building operations, to guide them towards sustainable choices. We also provide all our customers with training in the use of formwork blocks , to guarantee their correct installation andensure the building's resilience.
It's up to all those involved in the building industry, and EUROMAC2 in particular, to take up this new challenge! We're proud to offer a system that enables us to construct buildings that can withstand the test of time in complete safety, while providing optimum comfort for their inhabitants.
