Expanded polystyrene

Undoubtedly the best performing material on the market

Easy to use and very economical, the EUROMAC2 formwork block is undoubtedly the most efficient on the market! It consists of two expanded polystyrene panels with a patented metal frame molded into the walls. These spacers ensure the solidity of the walls and prevent the insulation panels from separating over time.

The EUROMAC2 insulating formwork block is a high-performance material that eliminates thermal bridges, guarantees the best possible airtightness, and effectively prevents any risk of condensation. It offers excellent thermal inertia to ensure a constant temperature throughout the day, whatever the season.

Finally, the EUROMAC2 formwork block provides excellent acoustic insulation against external noise. The insulating concrete block facilitates the construction of the walls of your passive house by allowing four complex operations to be carried out in a single step: wall assembly, installation of external insulation, waterproofing, and acoustic insulation.

The EUROMAC2 insulating formwork block is suitable for all types of architecture, construction, and finishes, and complies with RE 2020!

What is expanded polystyrene?

Expanded polystyrene(EPS) is a material obtained from petroleum refining products. At first glance, it seems far removed from ecological values!

However, EPS allows the use of styrene molecules, elements that are not exploited by the petroleum industry. The styrene is then expanded and heated with steam to produce small polystyrene beads that can reach up to 50 times their initial volume. These beads are finally compressed to form sheets composed of only 2% material and 98% air! Production waste, less than 1%, is recycled and reused in the next cycle. This industrial process therefore requires only steam and heat.

The advantages of expanded polystyrene

Each insulating formwork block consists of two polystyrene walls joined together by thin metal spacers, inside which concrete will be poured to floor level.

An installation technique so simple that it is unanimously approved by all builders!

This material is lightweight, easy to handle, and quick to assemble, as the formwork blocks fit together like building blocks and do not require any fastening system (no glue or mortar).

EPS, a healthy material that poses no health risks

Composed of 98% air, expanded polystyrene (EPS) is inert, biologically neutral, stable over time, and rot-proof. It contains no fibers and does not generate any particles. It does not promote the growth of bacteria and does not trigger any allergies. It is a non-irritating and non-toxic material used extensively in many fields such as microbiology, food packaging, and of course construction. Expanded polystyrene (EPS) guarantees excellent indoor air quality in your home.

Insulate well to save natural resources

Expanded polystyrene (EPS) guarantees perfect insulation and excellent thermal performance! In the building industry, its use can lead to significant energy savings by reducing heating consumption by up to 90% comparedto an uninsulated house. Less heating means less raw materials lost in combustion.

Expanded polystyrene (EPS), a material ready for RE2020

The RT2012 Thermal Regulation required that the energy consumption of new homes comply with the limit of 50 kWh/m²/year. This standard is a first step towards the construction of passive or positive energy homes, labeled BEPOS. The RE2020 Environmental Regulations set the maximum primary energy consumption limit at 15 kWh/m²/year. Expanded polystyrene (EPS) already meets this limit. It goes even further by enabling the construction of passive houses that do not use any main heating system! Some insulation made with expanded polystyrene (EPS) meets the objectives of passive houses and requires no external energy input; it is self-sufficient and does not pollute!

About embodied energy

Gray energy defines the energy expenditure required to produce a material and throughout its entire life cycle. This unit takes into account the extraction of raw materials, the transformation phase, transportation, and the energy cost of recycling. Gray energy is measured inkWh/m3. Expanded polystyrene (EPS) has a gray energy of 0.3 to 0.85MWh/m3. What's more, EPS provides perfect exterior insulation for your home, and that makes all the difference!

A passive house built with EUROMAC2 insulation materials can do without gas and fuel oil! Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is the ideal material for building a passive or positive energy house! Far behind in the rankings, solid brick, still widely used in traditional construction, has a gray energy rating of 1.2MWh/m3!
